Is Chiropractic Safe? Understanding the Facts and Evidence
Safety is the foundation of everything we do at Marlborough Chiropractor Clinic. If you are concerned about the risks of treatment, it is important to look at the latest clinical evidence and UK regulations.
Highly Regulated Care

In the UK, the title "Chiropractor" is protected by law. It is illegal to practice as a chiropractor unless you are registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC). This ensures that every practitioner at our clinic has completed a minimum of four years of intensive university training, ongoing training and adheres to strict professional standards.

The Evidence
Chiropractic care is widely recognised as one of the safest non-invasive, drug-free therapies available for musculoskeletal pain.

-
Statistical Safety: Research published in the BMJ and Spine indicates that the risk of serious complications from spinal manipulation is extremely low—significantly lower than the risks associated with common over-the-counter painkillers like Ibuprofen or long-term opioid use.

-
Pre-Treatment Screening: We never adjust a patient without a full physical examination. If we suspect a condition that requires medical intervention, we will refer you to your GP or a specialist immediately.
What to Expect After Treatment
If there you do experience anything after your appointment, the most common response is a mild aching sensation or stiffness in the treated area, similar to how you feel after a new workout. This usually resolves within 24–48 hours and is a normal part of the body adapting to improved alignment.
